Evangelism and Growth

May 2021

News and Resources from the Evangelism and Growth Team

This monthly newsletter is sent to all District Chairs to support them and their networks in the commitment to be a growing, evangelistic, inclusive and justice-seeking Church. Please share this content widely and let us have your feedback to help us better serve you and those with whom you minister.

News from the team

We’re excited by all the stories of A Methodist Way of Life so far!

We’d value your input as Chairs as we think about how best to support churches, circuits and districts over the coming year as we embed MWoL together.  Which of the following ideas would you find most valuable?

• An intro video which could be shown at Synods and other gatherings from autumn 2021.

• A ‘development day’ for your district/circuits (a mixture of training, storytelling, discussion and practical planning).

• A community of practice / learning (regular meetings with others exploring MWoL).

• A ‘MWoL for leaders’ course (e.g. 6 sessions to explore how MWoL can be used to support the discipleship of a community).

If you have 2 minutes to complete this brief survey, it would help us plan in a joined-up way with the Learning Network and the new MWoL Implementation & Strategy Group. We can’t do everything, so we want to prioritise the things that are most helpful to you and those with whom you serve.

What's on this month

Bake Off meets faith sharing

Don’t miss this wonderful conversation between Peter Sawkins, 2020 GBBO Winner (and Methodist!), and Matt Finch, Pioneering and Planting Officer. They talk about faith-sharing, mental health, prayer, and loads more.

So, what’s your tranche?

Following the Secretary of the Conference’s March letter to districts about the new funding process for New Places for People and Church at the Margins new Christian communities, the E+G Team partnered with several Chairs in Tranche 1 to present an overview of the process and to share stories of how district project ideas had deepened in collaborative design. You can watch the presentation here.

Additional written guidance and financial allocation updates will be sent to all districts by the first of June and posted at https://www.methodist.org.uk/fundingnpnpwith a full packet of materials ready in time for the new Connexional Year. If you’re not sure which tranche you initially joined or would like to move from Tranche 3 into Tranche 2, please contact evangelism@methodistchurch.org.uk as soon as possible.

Featured training: Evangelism for Leaders online course

16 June – 12 July

The reviews from the winter 2021 course are in and people across the theological spectrum are saying how inspiring it was and how helpful it continues to be for integrating evangelism thoroughly into mission and ministry. Consider recommending it to lay and ordained leaders in your districts.

Pilots are now underway in three diverse circuits for ‘Everyone an Evangelist’, an interactive process for local churches to engage to build confidence for faith-sharing. And a new Community of Evangelists will begin forming in the season ahead. More information forthcoming but if you’d like a sneak peek, email Holly Adams, Evangelism and Contemporary Culture Officer: adamsh@methodistchurch.org.uk.
