Prayer for Challenge

By John Morton

Taking up the challenge of providing a prayer for possible future use within the District – I offer the one below. It is made up of books of the bible beginning with each letter of the word 'CHALLENGE', and then based on chapter 2, verse 1 (keeping the 2100 theme alive) of that particular book to form a prayer.

On that basis I have used chapter 2, verse 1 of the following books of the bible:

C

orinthians

H

ebrews

A

cts

L

eviticus

L

uke

E

cclesiastes

N

ahum

G

enesis

E

to compile the following short prayer:

Father God, when I come before you, help me to cast aside any presumed wisdom or eloquence – for it is all about you. Help me to pay careful attention during this time of prayer and not drift away. I look forward, Lord, to the day when we can all be gathered in one place – as on the day of Pentecost. Accept this prayer as an offering – poured out to you, as I thank you that I am known by, and to, you. I was tested with pleasure to find out what is good yet you give me due diligence to guard what is precious, to marshal my strength and to be a good steward of what you have provided. I pray Lord that you free those who feel hemmed in by current circumstances and that, in time, a sense of familiarity will return.

Amen
